Setting up Particify in ILIAS

Particify’s ILIAS integration is based on LTI 1.3, takes a few steps to set up, and then makes Particify available in the course.

General

ILIAS supports automatic registration: you enter one URL, and ILIAS and Particify exchange the rest between themselves. Your system administration does this once, and we complete the connection together with you. We have tested with ILIAS 11.1.

ILIAS is used mainly at German-speaking institutions, so field and menu names are quoted below exactly as they appear on screen, in German.

Setup

1. Register the tool

In the repository, choose Neues Objekt hinzufügen > LTI-Konsument and open the section Eigene Tool-Einstellungen mit dynamischer Registrierung anlegen (LTI 1.3). Enter the URL we provided into the Registrierungs-URL des Tools field and choose Hinzufügen. ILIAS retrieves the configuration automatically and shows it for review; Speichern creates the provider.

Append a question mark (?) to the URL — without it ILIAS mishandles the URL and the registration fails.

2. Release the user data

Open Einstellungen > LTI-Provider-Einstellungen and set the following under Datenschutzeinstellungen:

  • Identifikation der Person: E-Mail-Adresse

  • Anmeldename: Vollständiger Name

Without the email address, starting Particify from the course fails.

3. Complete the connection

The Hinweise section of the same settings page shows the client ID that was generated. Copy it and send it to us – we store it in your instance and enable the connection. Once we have confirmed this, Particify is available in your courses.

Using it in a course

Create the object and start it

In the course, teachers add an object of type LTI-Konsument via Neues Objekt hinzufügen and select Particify as the provider. The object’s settings let them change the title and switch the object Online. Inhalt anzeigen then takes teachers and participants to Particify and on into the matching room. If there is no suitable room yet, they can create one in Particify first.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Particify need the email address?
Particify matches access from a course to an account by email address. Without it, starting Particify from the course fails. This is why Identifikation der Person is set to E-Mail-Adresse.
Why is the room selection not offered through Deep Linking?
Content selection does not work in any ILIAS version released so far, so Unterstützung für Deep Linking stays switched off and the room is chosen in Particify. Once the reworked implementation announced for an upcoming ILIAS release is out, we will evaluate room selection directly from ILIAS.
Can we set Particify up without automatic registration?

Yes. Open Administration > ILIAS erweitern > LTI, tab ILIAS als LTI-Konsument, and choose Globalen Provider für alle Benutzer hinzufügen. We provide the URLs specific to your instance.

  • Verfügbarkeit: Zum Erstellen von Objekten

  • LTI-Version: Version 1.3

  • Launch-URL: the launch URL of your instance

  • Initiate-Login-URL: the login initiation URL of your instance

  • Redirection-URI: the login URL of your instance

  • Typ des öffentlichen Schlüssels: URL (Json Web Token)

  • JWKS-URL: the JWKS URL of your instance

  • Unterstützung für Deep Linking: Nein

The user data release from step 2 is required here as well.
