Setting up Particify in Moodle

Particify’s Moodle integration is based on the open LTI 1.3 standard, is quick to set up, and brings Particify into courses as an activity.

General

Moodle supports automatic registration: you enter one URL, and Moodle and Particify exchange the rest between themselves. Your system administration does this once, and we complete the connection together with you. We have tested with Moodle 5.2.1.

Setup

1. Register the tool

Open Site administration > Plugins > Activity modules > External tool > Manage tools. Enter the registration URL we provided into the Tool URL field and choose Add LTI Advantage.

2. Activate the tool

Moodle calls the URL and exchanges the configuration with Particify automatically. Particify then appears in the list of tools with the status Pending – activate it.

3. Release the user data

Open the tool’s settings and check the following values:

  • Share launcher’s name with tool: Always

  • Share launcher’s email with tool: Always

  • Tool configuration usage: Show in activity chooser and as a preconfigured tool

After automatic registration they are usually already correct. Without the email address, starting Particify from the course fails.

4. Complete the connection

Open Tool configuration details and copy the Client ID. Send it to us – we store it in your instance and enable the connection. Once we have confirmed this, Particify is available in your courses.

Using it in a course

Add Particify

Teachers add Particify to their course as an activity – it appears directly in Add an activity or resource.

Link a room

Select content opens Particify, where they choose which of their rooms to link to the course. If there is no suitable room yet, they can create one in Particify first.

Starting from the course

Opening the activity signs teachers in and takes them to the matching room.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Particify need the email address?
Particify matches access from a course to an account by email address. Without it, starting Particify from the course fails. With a manual setup, both sharing settings default to Never rather than Always.
Particify does not appear in the activity chooser – why?
Check Tool configuration usage in the tool’s settings. It has to be set to Show in activity chooser and as a preconfigured tool.
After automatic registration the public keyset is wrong.
This happens occasionally. Open the tool’s settings and check the Public keyset entry against your instance’s JWKS URL; enter it by hand if necessary.
Can we set Particify up without automatic registration?

Yes. Add the tool by hand and enter the following values; we provide the URLs specific to your instance.

  • LTI version: LTI 1.3

  • Public key type: Keyset URL

  • Public keyset: the JWKS URL of your instance

  • Initiate login URL: the login initiation URL of your instance

  • Redirection URI(s): the login URL of your instance

  • Default launch container: New window

  • Supports Deep Linking (Content-Item Message): yes

The user data release from step 3 is required here as well.
